Arch Carter McCoy
July 21, 1923 – February 1, 2010

Life-long Rogers – Nowata County Native, Arch McCoy passed away Monday, February 1, 2010 at Claremore Veterans Center in Claremore, Oklahoma.

Arch was born at Tiawah, in Rogers County, July 21, 1923 to Archibald Carter McCoy and Lola Runnels McCoy.

He was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation; Grandnephew of Tribal Chief, W. C. Rogers. Arch was raised and grew up on the families Indian Allotment and graduated from Tiawah schools.

He joined the United States Navy in September 1942, receiving an honorable discharge in February 1946 after serving at the Panama Canal during WW2.

After serving his country, he returned home and attended Oklahoma A & M College (now Oklahoma State University), graduating in May 1951.

After graduation, he married Marrilee L. (Lee) Carpenter of Stillwater at a ceremony in Pawnee, Oklahoma on June 9, 1951.

They moved to the Alluwe area in December 1952 where they purchased a farm, in which they resided for 58 years.

Arch worked at Tinker Air force Base before moving to Tulsa where he was employed by Douglas Aircraft until 1968.

He then worked for Mott Roofing until he retired in 1983. For years, he raised registered Milking Shorthorn Cattle on his farm in Alluwe.

Arch is survived by his wife, Lee, of the home,a daughter Lorelei Lola Wood of Delaware, Ok, two sons, Eric McCoy and his wife Michelle of Chelsea, Walter Rory McCoy of Chillicothe, Missouri, a brother, Seward Kent “Sam” McCoy of Pryor and wife Marcia, Sister-in-Law Erma Lee Matthews of Verdigris; three Nephews, Randy McCoy, Tulsa; Glenn C. McCoy, New York City and Robert McCoy of Edmond. Four Grand Children, Seth T. McCoy of Chelsea; Melody Lee Wood, Delaware; Clint Wood, Delaware; and Beth Ann McCoy of Chillicothe, Missouri; two great-grand children, Hunter Wood and Chase Land, both of Delaware and a host of friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arch and Lola McCoy; two brothers, Glenn C. McCoy, John Claude McCoy, and two sisters, Fern Elizabeth McCoy and Bonnie Steiker; and daughter Joanna Elizabeth McCoy, and son-in-law, Roger Wood.
